The Taste of Life is Vision!!!
The African continent, unlike other continents, has faced enormous challenges. Recurring socio-economic, political, and especially military crises, often involving power seizures through armed conflict, have destabilized healthcare structures.
Ocular health is no exception and remains far from being managed effectively by Africans themselves. Specialized structures in this field are almost non-existent. Significant efforts are needed to address the vulnerability of populations suffering from eye diseases in conflict-affected countries. These vulnerable populations are plunged into precariousness due to their condition, which is a major handicap preventing them from engaging in income-generating activities (IGAs).
In the Central African Republic, it is estimated that over one million five hundred thousand (1,500,000) individuals are visually impaired or blind.
In this context of a global health crisis, the Central African Republic is not spared. The internal crisis further widens the gap between the visually impaired and other members of the community. Consequently, the development of the potential of the visually impaired diminishes and will not be effective given these numerous constraints.
We cannot overlook the exceptional situation induced by the coronavirus pandemic, which now affects almost every country in the world. This virus is increasingly impacting African countries.
In terms of security: The population continues to face daily insecurity. There are frequent appeals to the government to take measures to find a solution. Unfortunately, armed groups, despite warnings, remain active and exert pressure on the population to circumvent the strategies put in place for peace.
In sociological terms: There is an urgent need for protection and assistance from someone stronger during difficult times. The blind are particularly dependent and stressed due to their condition.
In educational terms: Central Africans suffering from this condition have limited access to education due to financial constraints. Many students, as well as their teachers, are penalized due to a lack of screening.
